Dell is planning to sell off its computer manufacturing plants all over the world. They do so because of their new strategy.

Thanks to Dell’s direct-to-consumer and just-in-time strategy, Dell emerged to the top pc maker status in the world in the nineties. However, as time and consumer psychology changed and evolved, HP overtook them with channel strategies. And now Dell realizes they need to effectively utilize channel strategies as well.

So what brought them to No. 1 has also brought them to No. 2 – because it does not pay to live in Yester-Land!

Your once Unconventional strategy once utilized, once exposed becomes conventional. Sometimes the ordinary is extraordinary because it’s unexpected, but once everyone knows about it, it becomes ordinary again. It’s like a magic trick, if I tell you how it works, it becomes ordinary.

I’ve met so many ‘experienced’ sales and business people who are proud to live in Yester-Land. Proud of the success that has brought them to where they are… but is it enough to bring them to where they want to be? Hm…
