I tried the new coconut ice-cream in Ampang Point recently and I had to queue up. While waiting for my turn, I saw that the workers were working and preparing the ice-creams in high gear. It was so fast-paced and was getting hectic because of the number of orders coming in every minute.
Then, I spotted a little girl behind the counter who was busy working too. I’m guessing it’s the owner’s daughter but what’s surprising is that she was not at home playing with her iPad or watching tv. She was making money.
Who says you’re too young?
A junior salesperson may be afraid to sell to directors and CEOs because of his age but that’s just a perception. If a junior salesperson is trained to probe, handle objections, sell benefits, persuade and close a sale, he can sell to anyone. That little girl in that ice cream shop is selling to people 3-4 times her age.
I can do it
That little girl had a mindset of “I can do it!”. I’m not surprised if she may be a little afraid or overwhelmed with the amount of pressure, but she kept on pushing herself. In sales, be confident and sell like a warrior. The first thing you should have before closing a sale is a mindset of “I can do it!”
Always improve
There was once I saw her getting confused and she immediately asked one of the senior staff for help. As a salesperson, if ever you get stuck or fumble along the way, get help from your seniors or get professional sales training to improve. Great salespeople make lots of mistakes but they learn from them.
Pushing your limits
A little girl her age would be busy watching TV and playing. But this one is making money every minute. As a salesperson, are you just like every other salesperson, or are you making money every day? If your colleagues only make 10 calls a day, you push yourself and make 20 calls a day. Always be better than average salespeople.
